Super Bowl XLVIII is almost upon us, so keep in mind a few changes that could affect projects before and after the big game.

  • The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) has placed a hold on all properties within distance of “Super Bowl Boulevard,” which is in the area of Broadway between 34th and 47th streets. The borough manager must approve every action at one of these properties.
  • Times Square will be on lockdown. Starting at midnight on January 26, 2014, through February 1, 2014, Broadway from 33rd Street to 48th Street will be closed to vehicles. In addition, 41st Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to midnight during that time.
  • The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a special event construction embargo for DOT-issued permits. Only emergency work (including utility manhole openings) can be performed during the embargo. The DOT must have an emergency number on file. All non-emergency permits are suspended.
