Local Law 147 2021: New Definition of Major Building

Beginning this December, many more buildings will be subject to new Site Safety requirements due to the passing of Local Law 147 of 2021. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know about the new requirements and how they could affect your next construction project. 

What is Local Law 147 of 2021? 

Local Law 147 of 2021 revises the definition of a “major building” and introduces new site safety requirements. Local Law 147 will change the definition of a “major building” from a building that is 10 or more stories to a building that is 7 or more stories, and from a building 125 feet or more in height to a building 75 feet or more in height.

As of December 2024, New York City will see a significant shift in its site safety regulations due to the passing of Local Law 147 of 2021. This change will impact many more buildings and projects, raising the bar for construction site safety.
