A world-class medical center, located in the heart of Manhattan with a growing outpatient network, sought a building code consultant that would enable them to remain the nation’s number one hospital in overall safety while undergoing major transformations to the medical center’s facilities. As a leader in building code compliance and municipal permitting, Milrose Consultants was retained to take the lead and streamline the municipal approval process.

In addition, HLZAE completely covered the existing roof with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. Additional layers include a root barrier and drainage and irrigation system. Green roofs serve several purposes for buildings including absorbing rainwater, providing insulation, creating a habitat for wildlife and decreasing stress by providing a more aesthetically pleasing landscape. Green roofs help to lower urban air temperatures and mitigate urban heat island effect.
