Village of Babylon Enacts Moratorium on New Bars and Restaurants

Earlier this month, the Village of Babylon board of trustees voted to enact a one-year moratorium on new bars and restaurants in the Village.

According to CBS2 News, Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino proposed the ban because he feels that the Village already has a large number of bars and restaurants and he'd like to create a better mix of businesses in the downtown area. Scordino believes that cutting down on the Village's bars and restaurants will improve conjestion and parking, saying “I’d like to see more retail in our village for more walkability.”

An exception to the Village's moratorium will be made for permit applications to open a bar or restaurant in a commercial space that previously hosted a venue for drinking or dining.
